Pair of antique prints, copper plate engraving and a plan of Gowran Abbey, Kilkenny. Theobald FitzWalter, first Chief Butler of Ireland, and his descendants became lords of Gowran after the Anglo‑Norman invasion, and the Butlers used the church as a principal burial place with elaborate effigial tombs of the early Earls of Ormond. The engraving is dated as printed by S Hooper in Holborn, London in 1795, plan 1793 , however this work was not actually published until 1797. The engravings have an impressed area size of 8 by 6 inches with the engraving measuring 7 inches by 5 inches. The overall paper size is 12 1/2 by 9 inches. The plan is in good condition, engraving is in ok condition, there is age related foxing and toning mainly on the paper, please see pictures.
