1797 antique print, a copper plate engraving, a plan of St Canices Cathedral, County Kilkenny, Ireland. St Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny is Ireland’s second‑longest medieval cathedral, built between 1202 and 1285 on the site of a 6th‑century Celtic Christian monastery founded by St Canice (Cainnech), patron saint of the Diocese of Ossory. The engraving is dated as printed by S Hooper in Holborn, London in 1793 , however this work was not actually published until 1797. Engraver is Barrett. The engravings have an impressed area size of 8 by 6 inches with the engraving measuring 7 inches by 5 inches. The overall paper size is 12 1/2 by 9 inches. The engraving is in good condition, there is age related foxing and toning mainly on the paper, please see pictures.
