Antique print, hand coloured engraving from 1834. Titled, the Argus Pheasant, Argus Gianteu’s. This print is Plate 8. The Great Argus, among the largest pheasants, features long, eye-spotted wing and tail feathers. Males perform dramatic forest courtship displays. The print was published as part of the Naturalist Library by Sir William Jardine, published by W.H. Lizars, Edinburgh. The prints are approximately 10 by 17 cm’s ( 4 1/4 by 6 3/4 inches). The print is in very good condition, paper will show ageing, print is to edge of page, some perforations and creasing left edge, please see pictures.
