Antique print, hand coloured engraving from 1834. Titled, Sonnerat’s Wild Cock Female, Gallus Sonneratii. This print is Plate 12. Sonnerat’s Wild Cock refers to the grey junglefowl (Gallus sonneratii), also called Sonnerat’s junglefowl, a colourful, an ancestor of the domestic chicken. The print was published as part of the Naturalist Library by Sir William Jardine, published by W.H. Lizars, Edinburgh. The prints are approximately 10 by 17 cm’s ( 4 1/4 by 6 3/4 inches). The print is in very good condition, paper will show ageing, print is to edge of page, some perforations and creasing left edge, please see pictures.
