Antique print, hand coloured from 1833 after William Jardine. It is titled, Troglodytes Niger, the Common Chimpanzee. Troglodytes niger is an old scientific name historically used for the common chimpanzee. In modern taxonomy, the common chimpanzee is classified as Pan troglodytes. The print was published as part of the Naturalist Library by W.H. Lizars, Edinburgh. The prints are approximately 10 by 17 cm’s. The prints are in good condition, paper will show ageing and foxing, please see pictures.
